Selena
She was an artist, performer, creator and set new boundaries in the music world. She was an Mexican American artist who was traditional yet modern. She united both worlds and helped bring Tejano music into the mainstream. Similar to how most people grieve a celebrity who died from their prime, the death of her was premature and destroyed a growing career. Her fans have worked even more to never forget the achievements she has achieved. Her tragic murder by a gunman triggered emotions in Latino communities, similar to those who reacted to Elvis Presley's death and John Lennon's. A hugely popular Latino performer throughout North America, Selena's music has touched the lives of many across different cultures. Selena was a sexy glamorous performer on stage that was frequently referred to by the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also an excellent role model since she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
